American Red Cross Holds Blood Drive in Memory of Staff Sergeant William "Billy" Wilson

The Wilson Family and the American Red Cross will join together for a special blood drive in memory of Staff Sergeant Billy Wilson on Saturday, May 25, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Getzville Fire Hall at 630 Dodge Road in Getzville.

Army Staff Sergeant William Wilson III, or "Billy" as family and friends called him, was killed as he approached a police checkpoint in Eastern Afghanistan on March 26, 2012. Wilson was recognized posthumously by President Obama with the highest military honors, including a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He will always be remembered as a brave man, faithful friend and loving son.

Local blood donors are needed all year round to ensure the blood supply stays strong. Approximately every two seconds a patient in the United States needs blood. That’s why your blood donation through the Red Cross is so important.

Your blood donation can help save the life of a real person in our community. Blood is an essential component for patient care in area hospitals, and the only source of blood is a healthy, volunteer blood donor. All presenting donors at the blood drive will receive a free t-shirt.* Walk-ins are always welcome, but donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance by calling 1-800 RED CROSS or by visiting redcrossblood.org.
