Lothlorien Therapeutic Riding Center (LTRC) was established in 1983 to provide horsemanship and horseback riding opportunities for individuals of all ages with cognitive, physical, emotional and learning disabilities. Since 1986, Lothlorien has owned and operated our present facility which is located just outside of the Village of East Aurora, New York. We offer therapeutic riding, Hippotherapy and EquiVision which are all forms of equine-assisted therapy.

The goal of our program is to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for individuals to experience the benefits of horseback riding and horsemanship skills. The facilities at LTRC are designed to accommodate riders with disabilities and challenges. Through the use of special mounting ramps, a wide variety of adaptive equipment and the cooperation of our trusted, and specially-trained horses, LTRC meets the needs of the population we serve while maintaining the strict safety guidelines established by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.), of which we are a Premier Accredited Center. Programs at LTRC are conducted by PATH certified instructors and over 200 trained volunteers dedicated to providing the highest quality programs for individuals.

The facility consists of four pastures, a 13-stall barn, a large outdoor riding arena, a newly expanded indoor riding arena with new footing, a new tack room, activity room and hay barn and office. LTRC is located on approximately ten acres surrounded by trees in a secluded, tranquil setting.

The benefits of adapted riding are as diverse as our riders. Individuals with physical, mental, and emotional challenges find satisfaction in gaining knowledge about our equine companions, both on the ground and in the saddle. The unconditional love of the horse is proven to reduce anxiety, encourage interaction and offer a haven where riders can feel a sense of empowerment. The accepting nature and tolerant personality of the horse encourages riders to test the limits of their abilities and learn to make good choices under the guidance of qualified instructors.

Lessons run from March – November and are offered Monday-Thurday and Saturdays at various times. Tuition assistance and family discounts are available. We are accepted under certain health insurance reimbursement programs.
