The Women’s Board at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital will host their annual “Rock-A-Thon” on Thursday, July 17, 2014 from noon to 7 p.m. to raise funds for the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) slated to break ground in the fall.

The hospital delivers over 2,400 babies annually. The NICU will be the first in the northern suburbs providing care to at-risk newborns and will decrease the number of babies at Millard Suburban that need to be transported to another facility when the need for critical care arises.
The fundraising event will take place in the main lobby where comfortable rocking chairs will be occupied by local business leaders, hospital employees and community members throughout the day. Participants collect pledges in support of the NICU beforehand and eagerly arrive to enjoy 30 minutes of relaxation while rocking.

“Our community has been very supportive in the past,” said Joyce Lenda, president of Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital Women’s Board. We hope that we have even greater participation this year." In previous years this unique event has brought in as much as $11,000 for the Women’s Board making it a successful one day event.
The Women’s Board of Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital has been providing financial support towards facility upgrades and the purchase of state-of-the-art technology to enhance the services provided on the campus for 52 years. Their generous contributions totaling over $4.2 million to date allow the hospital to continue delivering advanced healthcare to the local community.

The Board continues to recruit rockers with the need for 72 individuals to complete the schedule. For more information on volunteering to rock, or to make a donation call Judy Huber at 688-8170 or Joyce Zobel at 688-8768.
