Mental health goes hand in hand with physical health to promote overall health and well-being. Male and societal attitudes towards health, specifically men’s mental health, have fostered silence in many men which can prevent them from seeking assistance. Men may feel that talking about their feelings can be a sign of weakness and that it’s “unmanly” to admit to feelings of depression and despair. As a result, their mental health problems often go undiagnosed and untreated.

Men tend to disguise their depression by self-medicating, with alcohol and other illegal substances, and often wait until they are in crisis to get help. Statistics show, compared to women, half as many men seek psychotherapy and half as many men are diagnosed with depression, yet men commit suicide up to eight times more often than women. This is a crisis!

At BryLin Hospitals, Men’s Programming groups address the many challenges that men are confronted with that can affect their functioning, relationships, work, and their ability to enjoy life. Our multidisciplinary treatment team provides a full range of services for men, which includes a comprehensive assessment of medical, psychiatric, psychological, social, nutritional, and spiritual components. Treatment is provided in a safe, respectful, secure and structured environment which allows men to positively influence each other through group discussions.

Like diabetes or heart disease, a mental illness can be treated successfully. Don’t suffer in silence, get help today! Call BryLin Hospitals at 886-8200 ext. 2264 and let our experience be your guide to wellness and recovery.
